A sense
of being there.

I paint outdoors. It sounds more romantic than it actually is. Usually, the wind is blowing, insects are flying around, the light is changing, and there’s almost no time to think.

The most important thing for me — and often the most time-consuming — is to find something that catches my attention, to figure out what really matters to me right now. Then all that’s left is to get started.

I don’t try to paint everything. There’s no time for that anyway. I simplify things, capturing the colours, shapes, and light, and leaving out everything else.

I want the painting to convey something of what I felt while being there and looking at the landscape.
